Description
The Green Laser Corydora is a stunning and highly sought-after catfish, known for the brilliant neon green stripe that runs along its back and shimmers under aquarium lighting. This striking “laser-like” marking contrasts beautifully with its bronze-toned body, making it a standout among bottom-dwelling species. Active, peaceful, and endlessly entertaining, this Corydoras adds both beauty and function to any planted or community aquarium.
These fish are naturally social and thrive in groups, where they display playful schooling behavior and constant foraging activity. Their gentle nature makes them an excellent choice for community tanks, while their unique coloration appeals to collectors and aquascapers alike.
Care Guide
Green Laser Corydoras do best in groups of at least five to six individuals, which helps reduce stress and encourages natural behavior. A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a small group, with more space preferred for larger schools. Provide a soft, sandy substrate to protect their sensitive barbels, along with driftwood, plants, and shaded areas for resting.
They prefer stable, clean water with temperatures between 72–79°F (22–26°C), a pH of 6.0–7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes are essential, as Corydoras are sensitive to poor water quality and high nitrate levels. Gentle flow and good oxygenation will help keep them active and healthy.
Feeding is straightforward, but it’s important to ensure they receive food directly, as they are not just “cleanup fish.” Offer sinking pellets, wafers, and a variety of frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A balanced diet supports their health and enhances their vibrant coloration.
Breeding Notes
Breeding Green Laser Corydoras is similar to other Corydoras species. Spawning is often triggered by cooler water changes and high-quality feeding. Females lay adhesive eggs on glass, plants, or decor, and adults may eat the eggs if not separated. Eggs typically hatch within a few days, and fry can be raised on baby brine shrimp and fine powdered foods.
Compatibility
Green Laser Corydoras are extremely peaceful and compatible with a wide range of community fish including tetras, rasboras, gouramis, dwarf cichlids, and livebearers. Avoid aggressive or large predatory species that may intimidate or harm them. They also coexist well with shrimp and snails in planted setups.
