Sales Description
The Strawberry Rasbora is one of the smallest and most colorful nano fish available, admired for its brilliant red body accented by distinctive dark markings that resemble tiny strawberry seeds. Despite its miniature size, this species develops intense coloration when kept in a well-planted aquarium with soft water and a high-quality diet. Its vibrant appearance and gentle nature make it a favorite among aquascapers and nano aquarium enthusiasts.
Best kept in schools of at least eight to ten individuals, Strawberry Rasboras display natural schooling behavior and become far more confident in larger groups. Their tiny size and peaceful temperament make them ideal companions for shrimp, other Boraras species, and small community fish in densely planted aquariums.
Care Guide
Strawberry Rasboras thrive in mature, heavily planted aquariums with gentle water movement and subdued lighting. A minimum aquarium size of 10 gallons is recommended for a school, although larger aquariums provide greater stability and encourage more natural behavior. Dense plant growth, floating plants, driftwood, and leaf litter help recreate their natural habitat while providing security.
Ideal water parameters include temperatures between 73–80°F (23–27°C), a pH of 5.5–7.0, and soft water. Stable water quality is essential, as these tiny fish can be sensitive to sudden parameter changes. Regular water changes and gentle filtration help maintain optimal conditions.
Due to their small mouths, Strawberry Rasboras require appropriately sized foods. Offer high-quality micro pellets or crushed flakes along with frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, microworms, vinegar eels, cyclops, and daphnia. A varied diet enhances their vibrant red coloration and overall health.
Breeding Notes
Strawberry Rasboras are egg scatterers that may breed naturally in mature, densely planted aquariums. Fine-leaved plants, mosses, or spawning mops provide ideal locations for egg deposition. Adults offer no parental care and may consume eggs or fry, so a dedicated breeding aquarium is recommended for raising young. Newly hatched fry require microscopic foods such as infusoria or vinegar eels before transitioning to baby brine shrimp.
Compatibility
Strawberry Rasboras are exceptionally peaceful and should be housed with similarly sized, non-aggressive species. Excellent tankmates include Chili Rasboras, Phoenix Rasboras, Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus, sparkling gouramis, and freshwater shrimp. Avoid larger or aggressive fish that may intimidate or prey on them.
